Real Life Stories

Sammy and Clint - matched for 10 Years!

Hello my name is Sammy Wilson and I am in the 12th grade at Sexton High School. I live with my mother, Alechia and step father, Derek. I have been involved with Big Brothers Big Sisters for over 10 years and matched with my big brother, Clint Nemeth, during that time.

Since being matched with Clint I have learned a lot of life lessons. Every time Clint picks me up we have a great time, no matter what we were doing. The first experience I remember having with Clint is when we went bowling at Marvel Lanes.  My most favorite thing we ever did was when we went camping with the Big Brothers Big Sisters program at Sleepy Hallow State Park.  It was fun playing hide in seek in the woods, eating s’mores, and sleeping in a tent. It has been a fun experience doing things with Clint in my life and I want to keep having these experiences as I grow into an adult. Ever since being matched with Clint I have always wanted to be just like him. Clint is a great role model for me and I enjoy spending time with him.  Whenever I come around his family it feels like my family.  It’s my second home. I am looking forward to having a successful life just like Clint.  Recently, at our outings Clint and I have been talking about college.  I have been accepted to Lansing Community College and thinking about a degree in computer sciences.  We also talk about applying for scholarships, life after high school and then life after college.

Little Brother Nathan's Mom is thankful for Big Brother!

Tara, Nathan's mother writes:  "I wasn't sure at first matching my son with someone I have never met before!  This program has been the best thing that could have happened in my sons life!  Rodd has helped my son with his responsibilities in life to becoming a great productive citizen!  There has been times that I've needed help and have been able to call on Rodd to help me also!!!  We have all worked together to become a great team for Nathan! I can't thank Rodd enough for being a great role model and support system for Nathan!  Thank you guys for the perfect match!"

Nathan and Rodd have been matched in the Community Based program since August 2012.
